Schmian Evans is an educator, minister and poetic public speaker. She holds an M.Div. degree, with an emphasis in Sexuality and Religion, from Pacific School of Religion and a B.A. in Gender Studies from California State University Stanislaus. She continues her studies, under full scholarship, in the Women and Gender Studies M.A. program at San Francisco State University.
Schmian has been an advocate for those most marginalized, for many years, as an educator in inner city schools and as an organizational leader serving individuals with developmental disabilities. Today, she continues her advocacy work by serving as a “bridge builder” in spiritual communities seeking to explore the complexities related to sex, gender and sexuality. She developed and teaches a course entitled, Human Sexuality: Histories, Theologies and Politics of the Flesh in PSR’s Theological Education for Leadership program, is a sought-after public speaker and her essay, Gender, Sex and Sexuality: Variance as Sexual Deviance and Religious Taboo is pending publication.
Utilizing a variety of mediums, Schmian remains dedicated to the work and service of creating a more just world.
