About Rev. Betty Williams
Born #1 to the blessed couple Cester and Phyllis Reed has lived a life of service. Betty graduated from high school at the age of 16 and married Johnny T. Walker at age 17. She was blessed with three J’s: Judith, Jaqueline, and Janette. Later was blessed to enjoy four grands and one great grand, and six God children. Her family is her greatest asset, but she has a passion to help those in need and help her community.
She began a life of community service in 1970 where she served on the City of Alameda HOPE Board for ten years. In 1983 she became the first Black appointed on the Alameda Civil Service Board, where she served for eight years. Other services include: 1982-92 Foster parent, 1956-present NAACP Alameda Branch Treasurer; 200-09 Produced TV show “The Connection” on channel 28; 1997-present, President, Church Women United, Alameda; 1992-present, President, Alameda Race Violence Task Force; 2007-present, Alameda Copps Police; 2009-present, Inmate Council, High Desert State Prison, Susanville.
Betty has always loved the Lord and was baptized at 18 months by Pastor FD Adams and another baptism at 32 years old by Dr. Herbert Guice. She began a new life in Christ in 1977 and defeated death. She was ordained in Christian ministry in April 1984 by Dr. Edmond Duerksen and then licensed to preach the gospel at Cal Neva UMC. She received honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Sept 1998 at Bell Grove Theological Seminary and was ordained evangelist, October 2007, State Arch Bishop Jackie Murphy.
