From 2003 to 2010, David Dunn Bauer served as the rabbi of the Jewish Community of Amherst in Amherst, Massachusetts. Before his rabbinical studies, he directed theatre and opera productions around the United States, Israel, and Europe and in 2010 was the first rabbinical fellow to the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange in Washington, DC. He teaches about religion, theatre, Queer Judaism, and erotic spirituality at colleges, synagogues, and retreat centers nationwide and has led Torah study at the LGBT community center in Jerusalem. He is an alumnus of Yale University, the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, the Institute for Jewish Spirituality rabbinic leadership program. He is the first Jew to earn the certificate in Sexuality and Religion at the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA, where he began the Jewish Queer Sexual Ethics Project. He currently organizes Queer Jewish programming for Nehirim and has a private practice in Queer Spiritual Counseling.
