John McEntyre received his Ph.D. in Theology and Literature from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley after four years at Stanford, taught literature and religious studies for fifteen years at Saint Mary’s college and other colleges in the bay area before studying for the Masters of Divinity at Princeton Theological Seminary. His theological study was seasoned with a wealth of life experience: working with gangs in New York City, many wilderness trips, the birth of his three children, the death of his first wife, marrying Marilyn, and taking new risks in midlife.
He has taught courses in both the English and Religious Studies departments at Westmont College, served as Associate Pastor at First Presbyterian Church, San Luis Obispo, then Minister at Summerland Presbyterian Church. He loves leading Bible studies, reading Wendell Berry, Mary Oliver, Issa, Karl Barth and Calvin, playing the piano or recorder, writing haiku, walking, listening to Mozart and Ahmad Jamal, and doodling.
